More Killed in Action Than in Other Wars
FORT LEE, Va. — In a little-known museum tucked away on the grounds of an Army post near Richmond, a memorial wall just inside the door quietly announces a profound change in the nation’s fighting force.
Name upon name, the wall honors soldiers who have died in the combat zones of Iraq and Afghanistan: PFC Lori Piestewa, CPT Kimberly Hampton, SPC Lizbeth Robles, SGT Jessica Housby. . . . All 59 are women.
They are casualties in a conflict that has seen women serving in larger numbers than before, in a wider array of jobs, amid violence that heeds no front line.
I am a female Marine currently in the Individual Ready Reserve. I like to sleep, travel, read, eat, explore, and take photographs. I read lots of news and I like reading about life in other countries. I am easily amused and my dream job is to be snoozing in a warm patch of sunlight, hopefully with a piece of tasty cheese nearby for when I wake up hungry.

Wow. Sobering. How does that make you feel as a woman marine?
PS Thanks so much for coming by blog, My Marrakesh!
Fort Lee / Fort Story is a beautiful base. They have wonderful beach cottages on the beach there. We saw this memorial and stopped at the Chapel while we were there. Homage was paid….
Semper Fi!
And, I hope this war will finally put to rest that old idea that women can’t handle combat. Some women can’t, some men can’t.
We’ve seen some pretty courageous Lady Warriors in this war.
That was from me…
